Course Format

This course will be offered primarily in in-person format.

  • The first two classes will be on Zoom (requires UCSD credentials) to accommodate waitlist students.
  • The default class format is in-person, starting Week 2 (Lec 3), unless otherwise specified in the course schedule or announced.

  • Please include “DSC 291” in the title to make sure we receive your email.
  • For emails received between Mon-Fri, 10-4 pm, we will try to answer within the same day; else, we will try to answer on the next workday.

Textbook

There is no official textbook for this course. The primary contents are from research papers. Free resource to start in deep learning:

Assignments, Projects, and Grading

Students are expected to complete 1 Programming Assignment, 1-2 Scribings and 1 Course Project. The Programming Assignment will be conducted individually, and the Lecture Scribe and Course Project can be conducted by a group of 3-4 students per group.

  • Lectures will be scribed via Latex.
  • Reports are expected to be typed in Latex (except the coding part).

Late Policy

We understand there might be some circumstances where you may need more time to complete assignments and the late policy is exactly designed for this scenario for you to plan accordingly. Please do not email us for extensions, as we will grade according to your submission time.

  • The penalty for Programming Assignment and Lecture scribe is 20% per day.
  • For the Course Project slides and report, no late submissions will be accepted.

  • A+ = 98-100%
  • A = 93-97.9%
  • A- = 90-92.9%
  • B+ = 86-89.9%
  • B = 83-85.9%
  • B- = 80-82.9%
  • C = 70-79.9%
  • D = 60-69.9%
  • F = below 59.9%
